In the book, the Horde gave them permission to enter Silvermoon and other places. That being said, it might still be them. There is even a letter from Baine in which states that they are not to come under attack.
I dont like the documentation via character pov angle they did with the previous book.I don't really care about the perspectives, opinions, notes or opinions of any particular character or care for notes in the margins or crossed-out text. For books like this, I just want an facts and info in the style of those visual dictionary books we grew up with.If they did the character perspective the way the Dragonology books were written, then maybe that'd feel better.
I hope they wrote the book with the future in mind. That way there will be fewer RetCons.

Flynn and Shaw are alright, but I want someone from the Horde to be the narrators. Baine and Mayla would be a great choice, but they are rulers, so it would be kinda strange + SL story reasons. They might as well bring in Zekhan or someone like that. But I definitely want it to be characters from the "Kalimdor Horde", because, well, it's Kalimdor.
Loved the last book and enjoyed the writing. While I would love to have more of Shaw and Fairwind I do see the reasoning behind that some horde character should take point in this book. In for a really long wait for the release of the book though. :)
I really wanted the other book, but Flynn and Shaw leaving their stupid teenage flirty notes in it totally ruined it. I didn't waste my money. A serious book, I'd be all over like a cheap suit.
I actually don't mind Golden but I also don't expect her World of Warcraft material to be Hugo Award or Pulitzer Prize level material. Blizzard could not give us any expanded literary material so be glad that they spend resources to create any material. As for writing all that each faction acts the same well, look at how inter-connected the races have been for decades in the world. They would create more of a single culture than stay diverse. In the world, there would be tons of interracial children (half-dwarves, half-elf everything, half-orcs, half-trolls, etc) by now, and Org and Stormwind would have more diverse buildings (This would actually be a cool way to do player housing. hint, hint Blizz). I also hate Trolls so I really don't want Zappy to be the narrator. Flynn and Shaw have a huge pro-relationship following and were shipped to high heaven, it will also be nice to have a single series that remains the same as for the style of writing.
I can say that I have zero enthusiasm for this book. The only book of hers I actually kind of enjoyed had about 90% of its contents cribbed directly from the WC3 script or Wrath questlines, which is telling.
Pure speculation of course but the first book arrived right around the expansion release. So I wonder if we will get a major patch around October as well? It’s safe to assume that 9.1 will be announced at Blizzconline and so we will more than likely see it March/April. And then 9.2 in October.
October? They will write such book for almost 1 year? O.oBut of course better to wait longer instead of getting BugLands...
Is this another book that is "written from a specific point of view" and "just an opinion"?
Love the cover! :D
I didn't get the other one because I didn't like the idea that'd it'd also be exploring Flynn and Shaw's relationship. IMO romance in WoW has almost always been done quite poorly. At least to me they nearly always come across as a unneeded (and often unimpactful) distraction or side note to the story and quite often the individual characters' arcs as well.If Blizz wants these to be from a character perspective I'd much rather them be from a scholar or explorer's point of view. Someone doing it for the sake of knowledge and discovery. Brann Bronzebeard would be the perfect type of character to deliver information and insights about Azeroth's many locales. Chen and Li Li would've been a more fitting and potentially entertaining duo. Could've also introduced less known characters such as other members of the Reliquary or Explorer's league. There are plenty of characters they could've chosen to make it a more focused book. Even if it had just been Flynn or Shaw that'd be fine. One of the big issues for me is that I didn't want romance and relationship-building mixed in throughout a lore book. Additionally I find it a little disappointing that Blizz is so willing and ready to retcon that they have come up with this very lazy "retcon contingency" of "oh it's just written from character X's perspective. It might actually be wrong". Like... why even make (or more importantly why even buy) a lore book? I understand that warcraft is 25 years old so retcons are bound to happen but I feel like blizz is extremely liberal with how often then retcon things. Obviously I can only speak for myself but I find it much more difficult to get into the lore when it feels like nothing is set in stone. Especially when it comes to getting books like this or chronicles. I wish they'd try harder to make their current/future stories fit the existing lore instead of the other way around.
I loved the first book! I wonder how many they'll do. Northrend? Broken Isles? I think if it's not Flynn and Mathias, it would have to be someone with a similar personality to write funny comments on the letters. Maybe Garona Halforcen and someone like Gazlowe for the funny comments.
Five years ago I would have said 'take my money'. Now? Hard pass. I used to be a huge fangirl, but at this point I've been burned too many times. I'm not sure what they could do to get me to invest time or money into their books again. That said- love the cover art.
I'm hoping the narrators are Zekhan and Meerah (the vulpera). Somebody experienced with Kalimdor but not well traveled, and somebody who was practically *made* for travel would be a good, fresh dynamic for Kalimdor.
